Ziyarah Tours made a visit to a very unique and interesting attraction here in Perth, the Penguin Island. Who knew there could be penguins living and breeding in Australia’s temperate climate! Located off the shores of Rockingham, the trip took the Ziyarah Tours family about an hour drive to the Shoalwater Islands Marine Park. Once there, it’s an easy 5-minute ferry ride to the Penguin Island destination. Tickets were purchased at the kiosk on the main land and we are ready to board the ferry. Before you depart it might be a great idea to grab some snacks for the trip, as there are no shops on Penguin Island itself. We were prepared for this and brought along a picnic basket.
Apart from the major attraction of feeding the penguins you can engage in other activities such as snorkelling, diving, canoeing on the Island. The ferry ride gave us a glimpse of what Penguin Island and its surrounding has to offer with crystal clear blue waters and the occasional dolphin swimming around us. The highlight for Ziyarah Tours trip was watching the penguins. The penguin feeding times are at 10:30am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm. We booked a 10:30am slot to get the experience of the “feeding penguins” show hosted by penguin keeper Jane.
These cute little creatures were all rescued from life threatening events. The show gave us a fun way to learn and understand penguins and its history on this island. After the penguin show, we explored the amazing and beautiful vistas Penguin Island has to offer. With natural rock formations encircling the Island and bounded by the magnificent ocean views you only needed to be here to understand the kaleidoscope of colours. Breathtaking views adds to the relaxing experience. There is nothing that does not please the eye on Penguin Island providing us with scenic and photo perfect opportunities. Finally the Ziyarah Tours family took the chance to unwind on a grassed section for a short picnic and enjoy home made sandwiches before heading back to the ferry in the afternoon.
